North Florida is blessed with a relatively mild winter and early spring climate compared to most parts of the country. For too long we have been schooled in a northern climate mentality that says "best wait for warm weather". Since we don't have permafrost here, plants go in just fine and actually root in faster with the cooler temperatures. Even when new transplants are not showing top growth, the roots of these plants are expanding tremendously underground. When the weather does warm up, these plants experience an explosion of bloom than cannot compare with spring planted flowers that are spending all of their energy finding their roots.
